The funds are earmarked exclusively for public education and AI policy initiatives, with strict prohibition on their use for political candidate support.
This move comes amid escalating discussions in the United States about the regulation of advanced AI technologies. Anthropic stresses the necessity for enhanced safeguards, warning that powerful AI systems could threaten crucial infrastructure, such as hospitals, power grids, and financial networks, if misused. The company’s donation coincides with the launch of the Claude Mythos Preview, a cybersecurity-focused AI model currently accessible to selected users in the government, technology, and financial sectors.
Anthropic is advocating for more stringent oversight of AI systems, proposing mandatory independent testing and increased governmental power to halt the deployment of models not meeting safety standards.
