The United Arab Emirates has dispatched humanitarian aid to Colombia, responding to a devastating earthquake that resulted in over 300 fatalities and thousands of injuries. The assistance forms part of a $10 million relief initiative following the 7.4-magnitude earthquake that struck near San Jose del Palmar in Colombia’s Choco province on August 10, leading to widespread destruction and a national state of emergency.

The aid package delivered by the UAE includes essential supplies such as food, hygiene kits, and cleaning equipment aimed at alleviating the hardships faced by communities severely impacted by the disaster. The UAE government specified that the supplies were selected based on the immediate needs of the affected areas and were sourced from markets in Paraguay before being flown to Colombia for distribution.

The relief effort, directed by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, underscores the UAE’s commitment to supporting Colombia during its recovery. President Sheikh Mohamed had earlier conveyed condolences to the victims and pledged ongoing support for rebuilding efforts in the region.

Colombian authorities have expressed gratitude for the UAE’s prompt and generous assistance, which comes at a crucial time as the country grapples with the aftermath of the earthquake. The support highlights the international solidarity extended to Colombia in its time of need, aiding in the recovery and rebuilding process for the communities devastated by the quake.
