Putin’s Calculated Confession: Russia Admits, Blames Drones for Crash

by admin477351

In a calculated confession, Russian President Vladimir Putin has admitted his country’s role in the 2024 downing of an Azerbaijani passenger plane while simultaneously shifting blame to the presence of Ukrainian drones. The statement, made ten months after the crash killed 38, aims to manage the political fallout.
Meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at a summit, Putin termed the event a “tragedy.” He claimed Russian air defenses fired missiles at Ukrainian drones, which then detonated “meters away” from the commercial airliner, framing the incident as a tragic but necessary act of defense.
The Azerbaijan Airlines flight, which crashed on Christmas Day 2024, was en route from Baku to Grozny when it was struck. The crash in Kazakhstan has been a major sticking point in Russia-Azerbaijan relations, leading to a significant downturn in their diplomatic engagement.
President Aliyev was not swayed by the explanation, using the opportunity to accuse Moscow of attempting to “hush up” its culpability. This charge suggests that Baku views the drone explanation as an excuse for a catastrophic failure of Russian military protocol.
To back his admission, Putin promised tangible actions. He committed to providing financial compensation to the families of the 38 victims and stated that a legal review would be conducted to assess the actions of the Russian officials involved.
